Boat Trailer Outlet.com recommends you use this checklist prior to each use of your boat trailer. Safety and trouble free use are our goals and the use of this checklist prior to each use as well as making it part of your routine maintainance will help insure years of happy trailering.
Boat Trailer Safety Check List
( ) Insure the trailer ball on your vehicle is the correct size for the trailer coupler.
( ) Verify all trailer lights are operational.
( ) If your trailer has brakes installed, verify proper fluid level in master cylinder (coupler) and check brake operation by test stopping with your boat and trailer connected to the vehicle.
( ) Verify correct tire pressure on all vehicle and trailer tires. This can usually be found on the trailer sidewall.
( ) Be sure boat is tied down at transomeyes and bow eye to trailer frame.
( ) Safety chains and emergency brake cable are properly attached to tow vehicle.
( ) Trailer wheels are not loose or wobbling and bearings are spinning smoothly.
( ) Verify correct tightening torque on wheel lugs (90 ft pounds) and trailer fasteners.
( ) Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you while driving. In most cases it is a good idea to maintain at least 3 times the normal safe following distance.
( ) After each use, wash your trailer with soap and water and lubricate moving parts.
